The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed has disclosed that over 58 government owned enterprises generated the total sum of N1.1trillion in 2021.

Mrs Ahmed made the disclosure Wednesday, January 5, 2022 in Abuja at the public presentation of the 2022 budget details, recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.

She was happy that the federal government was able to break the jinx of under-remittance commonly associated with Government Owned Enterprises by generating N1.1trillion in 2021, which is over a hundred per cent more than the collection in 2020 fiscal year.

The GOEs include the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), among other 58 enterprises who have underreported their operating surpluses over the years.

The Finance Minister said, the federal government has achieved the feat by ensuring that the enterprises remit the required proportion of accruals to the government coffers, instead of spending generated revenue.
