Four Dead After Military Helicopter Crashes In Iran

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

An Iranian Army helicopter crashed into a busy fruit market in Isfahan Province, leaving four people dead, according to state media reports.

The aircraft went down on Tuesday in the city of Dorcheh, sparking a fire at the scene. Emergency responders quickly arrived and extinguished the blaze.

Iran has faced longstanding concerns over air safety, with several incidents in recent years involving aging aircraft, many of which were acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and are maintained without access to original spare parts.

Just last week, a U.S.-made F-4 fighter jet operated by Iran’s regular air force crashed during a training exercise in Hamadan Province, resulting in the death of one pilot.

Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the victims of the Iran crash included the pilot and co-pilot of the helicopter, as well as two market traders who were present when the aircraft came down.

The cause of the crash was not immediately disclosed.
