Policeman Caught Shooting In Lagos To Undergo Orderly Room Trial

The Lagos State Police Command has identified the police officer caught on camera shooting an AK47 rifle in Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

TheFact Daily recalls that a video had gone viral on Tuesday showing a man shooting into the air from an AK47 rifle, as he joined in the celebration of the reopening of the Ladipo Market. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, commenting on the video on X (formerly Twitter) had vowed that the Force “will identify the man with AK47 and do the needful”.

According to Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate commencement of disciplinary proceedings against the officer for his unprofessional, unethical, and dangerous behavior.

The Lagos State Government had in September 2023 shut four markets including the Ladipo Market in the Mushin area of the State.

The market, famous as one of the hubs for motor vehicle spare parts in the State, was shut for serial infractions including unhygienic disposal and management of waste by traders.

It was, however, reopened this week by the authorities in the State including the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
