Hon. Daniel Amos, who represents Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency and chairs the House Services Committee, has praised Speaker Abbas Tajudeen after President Bola Tinubu signed into law the bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to a federal university.
The new institution will be known as the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna. The Act repeals the law establishing the polytechnic.
Amos, speaking on Friday, described the development as historic and a mark of purposeful leadership.
He noted that Abbas, despite the heavy demands of presiding over the House, found time to initiate and pursue the legislation for the benefit of Kaduna State and the country.
“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.
He said the Act will reposition technical and vocational education, promote skills development and speed up national development.
The lawmaker also thanked President Tinubu for granting assent to the bill, along with a similar one establishing the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, Lagos. Both were sponsored by the Speaker.
Amos described the assent as clear evidence of the President’s commitment to educational reform and human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He congratulated the people of Kaduna State, as well as the management, staff and students of the former polytechnic. He assured them that the House of Representatives will continue to support the smooth take-off of the new university.
The law is expected to unlock federal funding, expand degree programmes, strengthen research capacity and improve graduate employability in Kaduna State and the surrounding region.
