Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has assured the Savanna Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD), also known as the Council of the Wise, that his 2027 presidential campaign will be conducted peacefully, in line with his past electoral conduct.
Atiku gave the assurance on Monday when he received a delegation from the Council at his residence in Abuja. The delegation was led by former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.
According to Atiku, the Council raised the issue of peaceful campaigns and the need to promote responsible leadership among political supporters throughout the 2027 electioneering period.
“Over the years, I have consistently conducted peaceful campaigns, and I assured the delegation that the forthcoming campaign will be no different,” he said.
In a post on his X handle, Atiku urged the Council to deepen its advocacy for peaceful campaigns by engaging all relevant stakeholders, particularly the three arms of government, saying the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary each have an important role to play in advancing the cause.
He also encouraged the Council to press for a level playing field for all political parties and candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.
“For my part, I remain committed to supporting every genuine effort aimed at strengthening our democracy, particularly by safeguarding the integrity, credibility and fairness of our electoral processes,” Atiku said.
