Terrorism: Tinubu Salutes Frontline Troops, Rallies Nigerians’ Support

By Suunday Etuka

President Bola Tinubu has applauded the nation’s security forces, describing them as a shield between innocent citizens and those seeking to destroy the peace, security, and dignity of the nation’s communities.

In a statement he personally signed and posted on his X handle on Monday, the President acknowledged the contributions of personnel drawn from across the country’s security architecture, including the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Civil Defence Corps, Intelligence Services, , and local security formations.

“In the forests, on the roads, at forward operating bases, in the air, creeks, and across difficult terrains, you carry the burden of national protection so that millions of Nigerians can sleep, work, worship, farm, trade, and raise their children in hope,” the President said.

He was frank about the toll the ongoing security campaign is having on men and women in uniforms, saying that the fight against terrorism has come with pain, pressure and sacrifice. He was equally emphatic that their service has not gone unnoticed.

“Your service is acknowledged. Your sacrifice is honoured. Your country does not take you for granted,” he stated.

The President extended his recognition beyond the uniform, to the families of security personnel, many of whom, he noted, have endured long separations, anxious nights, and significant emotional strain as the price of duty.
He also honoured those who have paid the supreme price in defence of the nation. “Their names may not always trend, but their courage lives on in rescued communities, protected families, and the survival of the nation they served,” Tinubu said.

Beyond saluting the troops, the President appealed to ordinary Nigerians, stressing that the fight against terror is not solely a military responsibility but a national duty requiring the active participation of every citizen.

“Citizens must support our security forces by providing timely, useful information. When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” he urged.

He insisted that Nigeria would allow terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, or violent extremists to define the country’s identity or break its resolve.

“Their violence is not our identity. Their hatred does not represent Nigerians of any faith, creed, or community,” he declared.

The President closed his message with a prayer for the protection of all those serving on the frontlines. “May the Almighty protect you as you protect our country,” he said.
