Cardoso Tasks Youth On Innovation, Technology To Drive Financial Inclusion

By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

As Nigeria prepares for digital financial future, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Olayemi Cardoso, has charged the youth to lead with creativity, courage, and technology to drive financial inclusion and build a trusted economy.

Mr. Cardoso gave the charge on Friday while engaging with the youth at the first edition of the CBN Governor’s Lecture, under the Bank’s Knowledge Acceleration and Thought Leadership Initiative, at the Lagos Business School.

The lecture, titled “Next Generation Leadership in Monetary Policy & Nation Building,” marks the launch of the CBN Governor’s Lecture Series, the first in a series of thought-leadership discourses to be held in collaboration with leading tertiary institutions across the country over the next three years.

This inaugural edition also commemorates the second anniversary of Team Cardoso’s leadership at the Central Bank of Nigeria, a period defined by renewed focus on price stability, institutional transparency, and anchoring monetary policy to the everyday realities of Nigerians.

He explained that the aim of the lecture was not only to communicate what the Central Bank does, but also to deepen the national debate on the choices and responsibilities that shape Nigeria’s future.

Governor Cardoso emphasised the importance of credibility in central banking, stressing that the leaders of tomorrow must embrace transparency, evidence, and data-driven decision-making.

“The leaders who will thrive are those who embrace innovation without losing sight of stability, inclusion, and trust. At the Central Bank, our regulatory sandbox and digital payment frameworks are part of preparing Nigeria for this digital financial future,” he noted.

The lecture attracted senior policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and students, underscoring the crucial role of monetary policy in fostering stability, growth, and national development.
