Tinubu Commissions Rehabilitated Roads In Karu

By Sunday Etuka

President Bola Tinubu on Monday returned to Karu satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the second time in a week, commissioning a network of newly rehabilitated and expanded roads, stretching from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, along with several adjoining roads.

The visit came seven days after Tinubu inaugurated a water supply network in the same community and underscored what the Presidency described as a deliberate focus on satellite towns as part of a broader urban decongestion strategy.

Represented at the commissioning by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President said the projects were a direct product of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and a fulfilment of commitments made when he assumed office in 2023.

“This project stands as a clear testament to our promise to resolve urban congestion and uplift the living standards of our people. It is a direct product of our Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” Tinubu said in the statement by the Senior Special Assistant to The President on Media & Communications, Office of The Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.

The President noted that the Karu Corridor, which serves as a critical gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, had for years been plagued by severe traffic congestion that he said drained the productivity and energy of residents and stifled local commerce.

The rehabilitated road network, he said, had dramatically reduced daily travel times, eliminated gridlock and created better conditions for businesses in one of Abuja’s most densely populated areas.

On safety, Tinubu said the FCT administration had installed modern solar-powered streetlights along the entire road network to improve nighttime visibility and reduce crime along the Corridor. The project also includes the construction of drainages and walkways.

The President credited the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, with driving the rapid physical transformation visible across Abuja, describing his supervision as “dogged, relentless and focused.”

He said the administration’s decision to prioritise high-density satellite areas like Karu alongside the city centre validated its governance philosophy that the wealth of the territory must translate into practical, everyday comfort for the residents.

Tinubu also commended the Contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for what he described as quality work and timely delivery, saying the firm had demonstrated that Nigerian companies could meet international standards for structural integrity and project management.

He called on traditional rulers, market women, youth leaders, and Karu residents to protect the infrastructure from vandalism and indiscriminate waste disposal that could block drainage systems.

Earlier, in his remarks, Minister Wike said the level of presidential support for FCT development was unprecedented and assured residents that the momentum of infrastructure delivery would be sustained.

The FCT Head of Service Mrs Nancy also thanked the President for his commitment to national development and infrastructural renewal.

The Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon, Zulkiflu Abdukadir, described Karu as the most populated satellite town in the FCT and said improving infrastructure there was critical to the broader development of the territory.

The commissioning was attended by legislators, top government officials, traditional rulers and FCT stakeholders.
