Troops of the 12 Composite Brigade, Nigerian Army, have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered two AK-47 rifles and 5,163 rounds of ammunition during a follow-up operation in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi.
According to Abdullahi, the operation, conducted on November 3, 2026, followed an earlier raid on a suspected kidnappers’ hideout in the same forest on November 2, during which troops engaged the criminals.
He said troops subsequently returned to the forest to track fleeing suspects, clear remaining hideouts and deny the criminals freedom of movement. During the follow-up operation, they engaged the fleeing criminals, neutralising two while others escaped into the surrounding forest.
Items recovered during a search of the area included two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, 438 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, 4,725 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two bandoliers, two mobile phones and a power bank.
The Brigade said the operation further consolidated the gains of the previous day’s raid, adding that troops had sustained their dominance of the area, with high morale and fighting efficiency.
It reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements, protecting lives and property, and restoring lasting peace and security across Kogi State.
