By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.

The operation, conducted on October 15, 2026, involved troops of Sector 2 advancing through identified terrorist hideouts around Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they engaged the terrorists in a firefight.

According to the task force’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee deeper into the forest. The soldiers pursued the fleeing fighters and neutralised some of them.

Danja said further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and life-support structures, while weapons and five motorcycles were recovered.

He added that troops had maintained a strong presence in the area, continuing clearance operations to deny the terrorists freedom of movement and improve security in surrounding communities.

The Theatre Command commended the troops for their courage and resilience, urging residents to provide timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to support ongoing military operations.
