Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have rescued six kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists along the Wasagu-Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Disclosing this on Thursday, OPFY’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said the troops, operating under Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, responded to credible intelligence on terrorist activity at Mehinua Village on September 2, 2026.

They swiftly mobilised to the area, made contact with the terrorists and engaged them with heavy fire, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon their victims.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA is the Joint Task Force North West’s military operation aimed at countering terrorism and other security threats across the region, while protecting lives and property and creating a secure environment for socio-economic activities.

Following the engagement, the troops successfully rescued the six victims unharmed. The victims and the recovered vehicle were subsequently handed over to relevant community authorities for further necessary action.

According to Danja, the operation underscores the troops’ resolve to safeguard law-abiding citizens across the Joint Operations Area.

Danja commended the public for its continued support and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security outpost to enable security agencies to take appropriate action.
