As the 2027 elections draw near, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has continued to canvass votes for President Bola Tinubu, this time around, from Nigerian students.
Umahi reeled out the President’s achievements calling for his re-election on Monday, when the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja.
The Minister who was conferred the title of NANS Grand Patron during the visit, tasked Nigerian students to x-ray the President’s reforms and see that he is fit for a second tenure:
“You may say that the macroeconomy, is just beginning to breathe. What was it before the president took over? Everybody agrees that the macroeconomy is fixed. And it is up to you, who are more learned than us, to dissect the ongoing reforms and be able to take sides. And by this declaration, we are taking a stand.
“I was enthused to find out that GDP is greater than our population. You are shocked to find out that GDP is greater than our population. For the first time, students never went on strike. Look at the stability of the nation. Never happened in the history of this country”, he said.
Umahi disclosed that, “the Abuja to Kaduna, to Zaria, to Kano is 375 kilometres by two, 750 kilometres. The president funded part of this project. We have spent over $200 billion on that project. We have achieved 240 kilometres, remaining 140 kilometres. For the first time, we are able to complete 118 kilometres of concrete pavement within 30 years.
“And today, we are back here with the remaining 164 kilometres. Both of these projects are costing us 752 billion under the president. Over 80% has been paid. We are believing that by November, the entire stretch will have been completed”, he said.
Earlier the President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez who named the minister of works Engr Dave Umahi as the Grant Patron of the association said the award was in recognition of hard work and commitment to excellence.
Earlier, NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Afeez lauded the Minister for the impact recorded in infrastructure development across the nation adding that it would create jobs for the youth:
“We are here to recognize hardwork and immeasurable service to humanity. Your landmark achievement in road infrastructure will open up our economy and create jobs for the teeming youths.
“Road infrastructures are particularly significant for our students as it will ease movement to examination venues for students, provide access to educational locations and reduce long hours of various vehicular movements across Nigeria and ensure that timeliness is achieved.
“Your appointment is a vote of confidence and as one of the main drivers of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and we will support you on this journey.
“We have a duty to contribute to the development of this country and to that extent we make bold to say that the scale of road projects completed under your leadership is worth recognition and we look forward to a long partnership that will be in the interest of Nigerians”, he said.
