2027: Umahi Inaugurates APC Campaign Council On Infrastructure Projects
By Alice Etuka, Abuja
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has inaugurated members of the Office of the Deputy Director-General (Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Director of Information and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Ahmed announced this in a statement on Thursday.
Umahi, who serves as Deputy Director-General of the campaign council, inaugurated the team on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Abuja, urging members to work collaboratively to ensure effective communication and public sensitisation on infrastructure developments.
He said the team’s responsibility would extend beyond the Federal Ministry of Works to cover infrastructure projects being implemented by other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), providing a broader picture of government investments across the six geopolitical zones.
The minister directed Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement from the six geopolitical zones, who were appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members and the secretary, to identify and compile relevant projects within their respective areas.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed A. Ahmed, Umahi said the initiative was designed to strengthen coordination and ensure that information about infrastructure development was properly documented and made accessible to the public.
He explained that although the Federal Ministry of Works accounted for a significant proportion of federal infrastructure investments, the team must capture projects undertaken by other MDAs to provide a comprehensive overview of developments across the country.
Umahi said existing publicity activities by the ministry and the presidential community engagement assistants would continue, while the newly inaugurated office would establish a broader framework for coordinating infrastructure information at zonal, sub-national and national levels.
He urged members to demonstrate commitment, professionalism and cooperation in carrying out their assignments, stressing that effective communication was essential to informing Nigerians about infrastructure projects and their potential impact on communities.
The minister also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development to economic growth, national integration and community development, noting that investments in roads and other public facilities could stimulate economic activities, connect communities and support other sectors of the economy.
On road construction, Umahi highlighted the Federal Government’s use of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology, saying the approach was helping to reduce dependence on imported bitumen and encourage the use of locally available resources and expertise.
He added that the construction method could support local economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported road construction materials and promote more durable infrastructure delivery.
The inauguration marks the commencement of activities by the office, which is expected to coordinate the collection and dissemination of information on federal infrastructure projects as part of its responsibilities within the APC’s 2027 presidential campaign structure.
