NDLEA Captures Another Fleeing Kuje Prison Escapee
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have captured another one of the several escapees from the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abuja.
According to a statement by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr. Femi Babafemi, the escapee, identified as Suleiman Sidi, was arrested earlier today, 11 July, at a motor park in an effort to flee to Borno State.
TheFact Daily recalls the daring invasion on the correctional facility last Tuesday, that led to the death of four inmates and the escape of 879 others. 443 of the fleeing inmates were recaptured and returned to the facility while spirited efforts by security and law enforcement agencies have been in top gear for the inmates still at large.
The Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, a terrorist group operating in parts of the country have since claimed responsibility for the attack.
Last week Friday, the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, released names and images of inmates who escaped from the custodial facility after the deadly attack, and are said to be members of the Boko Haram sect.
According to Babafemi, the operatives of the FCT Command of NDLEA saw to the arrest of the wanted terror suspect, on whose person were found wraps of illicit drugs.
Babafemi further disclosed that, during preliminary interview, the terror suspect confirmed that he was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility on charges of terrorism and robbery, and that he was indeed one of the inmates who escaped from the facility last week.
Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), while commending the officers and men of the FCT Command, directed that the wanted suspect should be immediately handed over to the NCoS.
