Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Resumes Tomorrow
The Nigerian Railway Corporation(NRC) has announced that the passenger train service on Abuja- Kaduna rail corridor would commence operatons on Monday, December 5th, 2022.
NRC Managing Director, Fidet Okhiria in a statement on Saturday said, the train service would begin with only two return services.
TheFact Daily recalled that the corporation had suspended services along the route after Boko Haram terrorists attacked a passenger train in Kaduna on March 28, 2022.
The terrorists after blowing up the rail tracks, killed many and abducted more than 50 passengers including infants.
The insurgents released their hostages in tranches after collecting ransom from family members.
On October 5, 2022, the remaining 23 kidnapped victims finally regained their freedom.
However, the Corporation while announcing the resumption of the train service said, the first train would depart Rigasa train station in Kaduna to Abuja by 8:00am in the morning while from Abuja, the first train would depart Idu Train Station to Kaduna by 9:45am in the morning.
The NRC reiterated that as part of the new security measures, it is now mandatory for passengers to present their National Identity Number (NIN) and valid Boarding Ticket before they would be allowed to board the trains.
Also, the purchase of tickets by proxy was only limited to minors and a specified number of adult passengers.
Online and mobile app ticketing would be available from 8:00 in the morning on Sunday, December 4, while the ticket offices at the train stations would open from 6:30 in the morning on Monday, December 5.
