Just In: Supreme Court Affirms Fintiri’s Election As Adamawa Governor
The Supreme Court Declared Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Duly Elected Governor of Adamawa State.
A five-member panel led by Justice John Okoro delivered the judgment on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
The apex court dismissed the appeal filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisha Dahiru for lacking in merit.
The court held that the declaration of Dahiru winner of the election by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) was unlawful, therefore, null and void.
Recall that the Supreme Court on Monday reserved judgement on the appeal filed by the APC candidate challenging the re-election of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.
Dahiru’s counsel, Akin Olujimi, had asked the court to uphold the declaration made by an INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa, for being an official of the electoral umpire in line with section 149 of the Electoral Act.
However, in its lead judgement today, the Supreme Court held that the declaration was an act of criminality, therefore, affirmed the election of Ahmadu Fintiri as the Duly Elected Governor of Adamawa State.
