The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), has delivered a solar powered borehole with a 10,000-litre capacity tank to the community of Cross Kauwa, in Borno state.
Chief Military Information Officer, HQ MNJTF N’djamena, Chad, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, disclosing this on Wednesday, said the provision of the facility is part of MNJTF’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of communities in the Lake Chad region.
TheFact Daily gathers that with the facility, residents of the community situated approximately 130 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital, now have access to potable water. Cross Kauwa (sometimes referred to simply as Kauwa) is located east of the town of Kukawa, along a road that runs from Baga to the east (formerly at the shore of Lake Chad) and to Kukawa to the west. Another road leads south to Monguno.
The Force Commander (FC) MNJTF, Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali officially inaugurated the newly constructed facility.
While highlighting the significance of the laudable facility as well as its role in providing clean and safe water to the residents of Cross Kauwa and surrounding areas, Maj. Gen. Ali attributed the success of the project to the generous support of the European Union and their partners under the Defence Council International (DCI) framework, commending their commitment to enhancing the well being of local communities.
The Force Commmander stated that the borehole facility represents a collective commitment to improving the well being of communities within the Lake Chad region by ensuring their fundamental right to access clean water.
He therefore tasked the people of Cross Kauwa community to take good care of the facility so that it would last longer as more similar initiatives such as provision of health care facilities and renovation of schools are underway, contingent on the community’s effective management of the facility
Earlier, the Acting Commander, Sector 3 Brigadier General MF Babayo, emphasized that the project will significantly improve daily living standards, reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and provide the community with a reliable source of clean water.
He stated that the project underscores the MNJTF’s dedication to meaningful community growth in line with the United Nations Sustainable Goal Number 6.
In his remarks the representative of DCI, General Ciaizzo Stephane (rtd) said the essential facility is the result of a partnership between the MNJTF and DCI funded by the EU to provide continuous access to clean water, enhance public health and overall quality of life of people affected by Boko Haram terrorism in the Lake Chad region.
On his part, the Bulama of Cross Kuawa, Shehu Subairu, expressed immense gratitude to the MNJTF for their numerous contributions to the community’s well-being. He said the water facility shows that MNJTF is sincerely concerned towards improving access to clean water and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Cross Kauwa.
The event was attended by key Military Commanders from Sector 3 Monguno, senior military officers from Headquarters MNJTF and representatives of DCI.
The newly installed water solar powered borehole facility has a capacity of 10,000 litres and is equipped with solar panels for water treatment, micro filters, and an automatic chrome dispenser.
It also has a high-voltage pump to ensure efficient water supply as well as a solar powered streetlight to illuminate the general area during darkness.
