Wife of CDS Assumes Office As 14th President Of DEPOWA

The wife of the current Chief of Defence Staff, Barrister Mrs. Victoria Irabor has assumed office as the 14th president of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association DEPOWA.

Speaking during the formal handing and taking over ceremony, which was held at the General AG Olonisakin Multi-Purpose Hall, DEPOWA Schools, Asokoro, Abuja, DEPOWA President, Mrs Victoria Irabor expressed her delight and considered it an honour to take-over the mantle of leadership of the Association, with a focus towards achieving its humanitarian and social intervention objectives.

TheFact Nigeria reports that Mrs. Irabor, while thanking her predecessor, the immediate past DEPOWA President, Dr. (Mrs) Omobolanle Olonisakin, for the laudable projects and other social-economic development initiatives executed during her watch, promised to build on the legacies of the erstwhile DEPOWA President, and solicited for the support and cooperation of the DEPOWA members in taking the Association to a greater height.

In her remarks, the outgoing DEPOWA President, Dr Omobolanle Olonisakin, congratulated her successor and wished her a fruitful tenure in office. The outgoing president, after enumerating the achievements recorded during her time, expressed appreciation to the immediate past CDS, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin and Service Chiefs, as well as other stakeholders for their immense support and encouragement.

Mrs Olonisakin expressed sentiments of appreciation to DEPOWA members for their unalloyed dedication and commitment, and charged them to extend the same vigour to the new administration in order to achieve the Association’s set goals of bringing succour to the less privileged in the society.

Before the event, which coincided with a sent-forth in honour of the immediate past DEPOWA President, Vice President and the Coordinators of the Tri-Services, the new DEPOWA President, in company of her predecessor, had visited the DEPOWA Secretariat to take a tour and and to inspect the Secretariat’s Skills Acquisition Centre, the ongoing building project in Mambilla Barracks, as well as the DEPOWA Schools in Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

DEPOWA is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) that augments the humanitarian and social intervention efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in empowering less privileged widows and orphans of fallen heroes who lost their lives in the service to the nation.
