The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has led a distinguished Nigerian delegation to the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum (GPSCF) taking place in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China.
According to the Force spokesman, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement issued on Monday, the Police Chief’s participation in this high-profile international gathering comes at the invitation of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.
TheFact Daily notes that with the recent declaration by the Chinese government to fully support Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to combat telecommunications and cyber fraud, including cases involving Chinese nationals, it is clear that both countries are deepening their cooperation to tackle transnational crimes and promote a secure digital environment. This development underscores China’s commitment to combating cybercrime, as evident in its Anti-Telecommunications and Online Fraud Law passed in 2022, which demonstrates a zero-tolerance policy towards such offenses.
The forum will see Ministers of Security, Chiefs of Police, law enforcement leaders, and security experts from across the globe deliberate on collective strategies to confront transnational crime, strengthen partnerships, and advance global public safety.
Hundeyin further revealed that Egbetokun will, on the 18th of September, deliver a keynote address on the theme “Combating Transnational Crime and Countermeasures”, in which he will highlight Nigeria’s ongoing counter-crime initiatives, innovative policing reforms, collaborative efforts with international partners in disrupting cross-border criminal networks as well as safeguarding communities.
Before the forum gets underway however, the IGP will today, 15th September, hold a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Minister of Public Security of China, Mr. Qi Yanjun. Discussions will focus on enhancing security cooperation, intelligence sharing, capacity building, and strengthening law enforcement ties between Nigeria and China.
“The attendance of IGP Egbetokun at this global platform underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to international security collaboration, intelligence-driven policing, and proactive responses to emerging security threats. It equally reaffirms Nigeria’s position as a responsible global partner in shaping the future of public security and law enforcement”, Hundeyin stated.
The forum holds from 16th to 18th September 2025.
