Three district hospital laboratories in Wuse, Asokoro, and Maitama all under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), have been presented with the ISO 15189:2022 Accreditation Certificates.

The Public Relations Officer, FCTA Hospital Management Board, Winnie Tanu announced the development in a statement on Tuesday.

The presentation ceremony, organized by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), took place at the MLSCN Headquarters, Golden Arena, Abuja, with the Health Services and Environment Secretariat (HSES) and the Hospitals Management Board fully represented.

Representing the Mandate Secretary, HSES, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, Dr. Ahmadu Abubakar described the accreditation as a remarkable achievement for the FCTA administration and a strong reflection of its commitment to quality healthcare delivery in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the attainment of ISO 15189:2022 accreditation demonstrates the FCTA’s resolve to strengthen laboratory systems, ensure accurate and reliable diagnostic services, and improve patient safety across public health facilities.

“This is indeed a great feat for the FCT. We will do all within our capacity to ensure that our other hospitals work diligently towards achieving this standard. This milestone is not the end, but a motivation to raise the bar even higher,” Dr. Ahmadu stated.

In his remarks, the Acting Registrar/CEO of MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ofili, acknowledged the Minister of the FCT for his leadership and support in achieving this important stride. He recalled that when the accreditation journey began in 2015, only Bwari General Hospital laboratory attained accreditation.

“Today, it is no longer one, but three FCT hospitals that have achieved ISO 15189:2022 accreditation. I am particularly pleased that the FCT management is fully represented here to receive these certificates,” Dr. Ofili said.

He commended the Health Secretariat and the Hospitals Management Board for their structured quality improvement efforts, sustained commitment, and leadership in driving excellence within the FCT health system.

With this accomplishment, the Federal Capital Territory has set a national benchmark for other states to follow in aligning their medical laboratory services with internationally recognized standards.

The FCTA reaffirmed its dedication to sustaining accreditation standards, expanding quality management systems, and ensuring that all its healthcare facilities continue to deliver safe, reliable, and globally competitive services to residents of the Territory.
