The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the nationwide deployment of personnel and logistics for the 2026 Eid-El-Fitri Special Patrol Operations, scheduled from 17 to 22 March, to ensure safer travel during the festive period.
According to a statement on Monday by the Corps’ spokesperson, Felicia Kalu, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed stated that the operation aims to reduce road crashes, fatalities, and injuries while maintaining free flow of traffic on major highways.
Patrol visibility will be increased, rescue teams strategically positioned, and public enlightenment campaigns conducted to guide motorists and other road users during the celebrations.
Kalu added that the Corps will maintain 24-hour patrols along critical corridors, supported by ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes.
This is even as enforcement will target major traffic violations, including speeding, overloading, lane indiscipline, tyre violations, and the use of mobile phones while driving.
Commanding officers across sectors have been directed to ensure full deployment of operational equipment, while Special Marshals will assist in traffic control, Kalu said, adding that the FRSC will collaborate with other security and emergency agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, Federal Fire Service, and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, to ensure rapid response to emergencies.
She encouraged motorists to obey traffic rules, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and exercise patience.
Real-time traffic updates and travel advisories will be available on National Traffic Radio 107.1FM, and the public can report crashes or obstructions via the FRSC toll-free line 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
