The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has warned newly promoted senior officers against corruption, abuse of office and indiscipline, declaring that misconduct will not be tolerated under his leadership.
Disu gave the charge on Monday at the decoration ceremony of officers elevated to the ranks of Assistant Inspectors-General and Commissioners of Police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, stressing that promotion is a call to higher responsibility and stricter accountability.
TheFact Daily reports that the latest promotions come amid a leadership reshuffle in the Force following the exit of senior officers who served under former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun. Earlier in March, at least seven Assistant Inspectors-General were elevated to Deputy Inspectors-General to fill the vacuum created by those retirements, in what authorities describe as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen command structure and reposition the police.
“From this moment, you are no longer just senior officers; you are strategic leaders of this institution. You are expected to lead from the front. Your actions, decisions, and personal conduct must reflect discipline, integrity, and absolute respect for the rule of law,” Disu said, warning of zero tolerance for misconduct.
He charged the officers to take full responsibility for personnel under their commands, noting that weak supervision often breeds indiscipline. According to him, they will be held accountable not only for operational outcomes but also for the conduct of officers they oversee.
The police chief also emphasised people-oriented policing, urging adherence to professionalism, human rights and responsiveness to public needs. He added that newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General and Assistant Inspectors-General would begin a strategic leadership retreat on March 24, 2026, organised with the United Nations Development Programme, to deepen reforms and modern policing standards.
