Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified coordinated offensives against terrorist enclaves across Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States, targeting armed groups and securing vulnerable communities.
Acting Director, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba disclosed this on Thursday.
TheFact Daily reports that security operations in Nigeria’s North-West have intensified over the past few years in response to escalating banditry, mass kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities across states like Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, and Kaduna.
Overall, operations in the North-West remain a critical component of Nigeria’s internal security efforts, with ongoing offensives aimed at weakening armed groups while restoring normalcy to affected communities.
According to Osoba, in Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest on March 25, 2026, eliminating three bandits and recovering three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.
In Zamfara State, troops carried out a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village Road the same day, neutralising two terrorists and forcing others to flee. Recovered items included one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle. Later, troops responded to a retaliatory attack on Kaida Village, killing one additional terrorist and recovering another AK-47 rifle.
In a separate intelligence-led clearance operation in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi LGA, troops forced fleeing terrorists to abandon one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition under sustained pressure.
In Kebbi State, troops, responding to reports of the presence of Lakurawa terrorist group elements in Giron Masa community, Shanga LGA, were ambushed en route to the location. Reinforcements and combat enablers have since been deployed, with ongoing efforts to track and neutralise the fleeing attackers.
The 8 Division/Sector 2 Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations, degrading terrorist capabilities, and ensuring the safety of communities across the North-West.
