By Sunday Etuka

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the security team attached to its Ogbomosho Transmission Substation has successfully repelled an attempted robbery attack on the station in the early hours of 10th May 2026.

TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, said preliminary reports showed that a group of armed men gained unauthorized access into the substation premises by scaling the perimeter fence near the gate between late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

According to her, the intruders proceeded to the gate house in an attempt to attack and immobilise the vigilante security personnel on duty.

However, she said the security team on duty repelled the attackers by firing warning shots, forcing them to retreat and flee through the same route they used to gain entry. Affirming that during their escape, the suspects abandoned some of their tools and personal items near the fence wall.

Mrs Mbah said early morning inspection revealed abandoned implements suspected to be used in the attempted attack, along with traces of blood and footprints leading to the point of escape. Noting that a full search conducted after daylight led to the recovery of a bag containing additional tools believed to belong to the intruders.

She said the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities, and TCN is working closely with security agencies to investigate the matter and prevent a recurrence. Clarifying that no personnel were injured.

While stating that the company remains committed to safeguarding its installations and ensuring the safety of staff and infrastructure nationwide, Mbah said the Company has directed a formal report of the incident to the Oba’s Palace.
