Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressive Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries in the state.
Fubara cited the need to prioritise the peace, stability, and unity of Rivers State over personal political ambition as reasons for his decision.
TheFact Daily recalls that in June last year, the Governor reached an agreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, after his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu following his suspension, to perish his ambition of reelection in 2027.
The agreement was reached during a closed-door meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa Abuja.
In a statement issued late on Wednesday, Governor Fubara said the decision, though difficult, was reached after deep reflection and extensive consultations with family, friends, and close associates.
“Leadership is ultimately about sacrifice,” Fubara said. “There comes a time when personal ambition must yield to the greater good of the people. Rivers State is bigger than any individual.”
He told his supporters that his exit from the race was not borne out of weakness or fear, but out of conviction.
“I stepped aside not out of weakness, fear, or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” he noted.
Fubara extended his appreciation to his supporters, for their time, resources, prayers and hope they invested in hs gubernatorial bid, saying that “much has indeed been invested and much sacrified along the way,” but should not be seen as wasted.
While thanking the APC for the platform, the Governor extended his heartfelt appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support and encouragement throughout the process.
