The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) in its recently published the Lassa Fever Situation Report says it has recorded 1000 confirmed cases of the disease.
According to the Report for Week 29 (13th – 19th July 2026) and week 30 (20th – 26th July 2026) released on Monday, the total number of new confirmed cases decreased from 25 in epi week 28 of 2026 to 20. The cases were reported in Ondo, Bauchi and Edo states.
It further disclosed that, “the cumulative for week 29 (2026) total: 983 confirmed cases, 231 deaths have been recorded , CFR 23.5% (higher than 18.9% same period in 2025).
“23 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 114 LGAs. 86% of confirmed cases are from Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Benue and Edo State.
“The predominant age group affected is 21- 30 years. No new healthcare worker was affected in the reporting Week 29”.
For week 30, the total number of new confirmed cases decreased from 20 in epi week 29 of 2026 to 17. The cases were reported in Ondo, Bauchi, Edo and Benue states.
“Cumulative for week 30 (2026) total: 1000 confirmed cases, 237 deaths have been recorded , CFR 23.7% (higher than 18.8% same period in 2025). 23 states have recorded at least one confirmed case across 116 LGAs.
“86% of confirmed cases are from Bauchi, Ondo, Taraba, Benue and Edo State. The predominant age group affected is 21- 30 years. One new healthcare worker was affected in the reporting Week 30”, the NCDC said.
