The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Monday joined former President Goodluck Jonathan, Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior security stakeholders at the National Defence College (NDC) Course 34 Graduation Lecture in Abuja.
The lecture, delivered by Jonathan at Abacha Hall, NDC, was themed “Harnessing Industrial Capacity for Inclusive Growth and Regional Stability in Africa.”
The Nigerian Army stated that the high-level gathering examined the link between industrial development, economic resilience and sustainable security, with participants exploring strategies for strengthening Africa’s productive capacity and promoting regional stability.
The discourse highlighted the growing relationship between industrial capacity, economic security and national defence, particularly amid evolving security threats across the continent.
Speakers and participants stressed the need for African countries to strengthen indigenous production, advance technology, reduce external dependencies and create sustainable economic opportunities to address some of the root causes of instability.
The event was attended by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Director-General of the Department of State Services, Inspector-General of Police, other Service Chiefs and heads of security agencies.
The participation of senior defence and security leaders underscored the importance of a whole-of-government approach to national security, recognising that sustainable stability depends not only on military capability but also on economic resilience, industrial strength, technological advancement and effective governance.
The lecture formed part of activities marking the completion of NDC Course 34 and reinforced the College’s role in developing senior military, security and civilian leaders equipped to address complex national, regional and global security challenges.
