Tower Collapse Cuts Power Supply To Keffi, Akwanga Substations -TCN

By Sunday Etuka

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu Keffi Akwanga 132kV line, leaving all 33kV outgoing feeders at Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.

In a statement on Thursday, TCN said towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed along the 132kV corridor.

The company said the incident occurred at about 1606hrs on Wednesday October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions, when the Karu Keffi Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection. Investigations revealed the collapse, prompting TCN to isolate the line for safety.

As a result, it said, no load can be nominated on the affected 33kV feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga substations in the interim.

TCN said its engineers are on site to assess the extent of damage and determine requirements to commence restoration.

The company apologised for inconvenience to electricity customers supplied from the affected substations and assured that repairs will be completed as quickly as possible to restore bulk power supply.

TCN said it will provide further updates as restoration progresses.
