Professor Segun Aina has assumed the office of the 6th Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) following the completion of Prof. Ishaq Oloyede’s tenure.
In his inaugural address, Aina thanked President Bola Tinubu for the confidence he had reposed in him by entrusting him with the leadership of one of Nigeria’s most consequential public institutions.
“I assure Mr President, and
indeed every Nigerian, that I shall discharge this responsibility with integrity,
fairness, diligence and an unwavering commitment to the public good”, he said.
The new Registrar stated that one of his main focus was to strengthen the trust Nigerians place in JAMB and to reduce the stress, uncertainty and anxiety experienced by candidates.
“Every interaction should reassure them that they are dealing with an institution
that is fair, transparent and genuinely committed to serving them.
That is the standard we must set for ourselves. That is the trust we hold for the Nigerian people”, he said.
Furthermore, Aina stated that the first commitment of his stewardship is to protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits.
“Integrity is not merely one of our values.
It is the foundation upon which every other achievement rests. Without integrity, technology becomes a tool for manipulation. Without integrity, efficiency loses its meaning.
“Without integrity, public confidence disappears. Every young Nigerian must know that success in JAMB will continue to be earned through preparation, merit and honest effort not through influence,
manipulation or fraud”, he said.
The Registrar also sounded a strong warning to those engaging in examination malpractice:
“Permit me therefore to speak directly to those who seek to undermine the integrity
of our examinations. To those who organise examination malpractice, to those who recruit impersonators, to those who forge credentials, to those who compromise CBT centres, to those who exploit desperate candidates and anxious parents, to those who collude with dishonest officials.
“To those who engage in cybercrime, extortion, bribery, identity theft or any other
sharp practice designed to undermine the integrity of our examinations and
admissions process, hear me clearly, your business is with the wrong institution.
“JAMB will continue to deploy every lawful technological, administrative and
investigative measure available to detect, deter and prosecute examination
malpractice and every other form of fraud against the Board”, he warned.
On his part, the outgone JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede also appreciated the president for the privilege to serve, he further expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ministers of Education, heads of agencies, staff of the Board and all those who made his tenure a success. He therefore appealed for the same support to be extended to his successor.
