APC Tells ADC To Accept Court Verdict, Take Leadership Crisis To Appeal

By Sunday Etuka

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected claims by the David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that it had a hand in a Federal High Court judgment that removed the faction’s leadership, insisting it is neither a party to the case nor connected to it in any way.

In a statement issued on Friday, 6 November 2026, by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the APC accused the ADC of praising the judiciary when rulings favour it and attacking judges and the party’s rivals whenever they do not.

Morka said this habit shows the ADC has little regard for the authority and independence of the courts, which he described as an indispensable pillar of democracy.

He explained that the judgment, delivered on Thursday by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, arose from a suit filed by ADC national officers against Senator David Mark and his team.

The officers had challenged what they called a takeover of the party’s leadership. The court sacked the Mark-led leadership and nullified all its official acts, including the party’s primary election processes and outcomes.

According to the APC, the ruling was the natural result of the faction’s own conduct. Morka claimed the takeover was carried out to serve former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition and violated the rule of law and the party’s internal democracy, as the court has now declared.

He said the faction was reacting with anger, spreading conspiracy theories and refusing to take responsibility for a problem of its own making.

The APC spokesman said the judgment showed the strength of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary in Nigeria.

He advised the ADC to use its constitutional right of appeal if it is unhappy with the outcome, rather than attack the APC or issue threats that could incite unrest among the same Nigerians it hopes to govern.

Morka described the ADC as a weak party that cannot be taken seriously, adding that a party unable to resolve its own troubles cannot fix Nigeria.

He said the APC and the Tinubu administration remain committed to protecting democracy, upholding the rule of law and delivering good governance, and are not shaken by what he called the cries of a struggling opposition.
