The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recovered the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) from the site of the ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, as recovery operations and investigations into the accident continue.
The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, confirming that technical teams from the NAF and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) had established that the recovered recorder was intact.
He said part of the Flight Data Recorder (FDR), also known as the black box, had also been retrieved, while efforts were ongoing to locate the remaining portion.
The recovery teams have also recovered additional aircraft wreckage, engine components and human remains, despite the challenging swamp terrain.
According to the statement, the Directorate of Identification and Classification (DIC) is handling procedures for identifying the recovered human remains, while the NAF continues to engage with victims’ families and relevant authorities over environmental concerns raised by the host community.
Ejodame said the investigation was being conducted with due diligence to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident and draw lessons to strengthen flight safety and safeguard personnel and citizens.
The Air Force appealed for patience and understanding, assuring the public that verified updates would be provided as the recovery and investigation processes progress.
