Bandits Attack Village, Kill Four, Abduct Eighteen In Sokoto

Four persons have been reportedly killed and eighteen abducted in Giyawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State following an attack by suspected bandits.

The Sokoto State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident on Thursday, adding that eighteen persons were abducted by the assailants that carted away valuables including livestock.

He disclosed that of the eighteen abducted victims, seven escaped from their abductors and returned to the community, whose residents have now fled.

Some residents in the community however, claim that over thirty persons were abducted, but the police maintains that only eleven persons are still with the attackers.

Meanwhile, the police say its personnel are on the trail of the assailants and are making efforts to ensure normalcy is restored in the area.
