The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has disclosed that thd officers involved in a viral extortion video are currently undergoing orderly room trial, adding that the outcome of the disciplinary process will be made public.
In a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, on Thursday, the CP aligned with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which strictly prohibits extortion and the use of POS or any electronic payment platforms in police formations, stressing that no officer is authorized to demand or receive money from members of the public under any guise.
The officers involved—Inspector Augustine Jeremiah and Corporal Miracle Ehirim— of ‘C’ Division Asaba, were captured in a video that has since gone viral, collecting money from a motorist within the station using a POS machine, a conduct the Force views as unprofessional, embarrassing, and wholly unacceptable.
Reaffirming his stance on accountability, the CP warned that extortion and abuse of office will not be tolerated, and urged officers to uphold professionalism and respect the fundamental rights of citizens in line with the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
He appreciated members of the public for bringing the incident to light and encouraged continued reporting of police misconduct through the Complaint Response Unit. The Command reiterated its commitment to discipline, accountability, and strengthening public trust.
