Drones Attack: Nigeria Urges Iran, Israel To Exercise Restraint

By Sunday Etuka, Abuja

Following the renewed attacks between Iran and Israel, the Federal Government of Nigeria has joined other Members of the International Community to call on Iran and Israel to exercise restraint.

The call also follows the ongoing diplomatic efforts being made to ease tension and avoid a wider conflict in the Middle East.

In a statement by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Francisca Omayuli on Sunday, Nigeria Urged both countries to choose the option of peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“In this critical period, it behoves the two countries to reflect on the universal commitment to peaceful resolution of conflicts, for the advancement of global peace and security”, the statement said.

Iran on Saturday launched dozens of drones at Israel, an attack was feared could trigger a major escalation between the regional archenemies, with the U.S. pledging to back Israel.

Iran launched the attack over a suspected Israeli strike on its consulate in Syria on April 1 that killed top Revolutionary Guards commanders and followed months of clashes between Israel and Iran’s regional allies, triggered by the war in Gaza.

However, the attack from hundreds of missiles and drones, mostly launched from inside Iran, caused only modest damage in Israel as most were shot down with the help of the U.S., Britain and Jordan.

Yesterday, Iran warned Israel and the United States of a much larger response if there is any retaliation for its mass drone and missile attack on Israeli territory, declaring that the attack has been concluded.
