Death Toll In Mokwa Floods Rises To 153

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), has confirmed that death toll resulting from the flood incident which occurred in the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state on Friday, has risen to 153.

NSEMA Acting Director General, Ibrahim Hussani confirmed this to Channels Television on Sunday.

According to the figures released yesterday by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), over 503 households and 264 houses were affected, while 3,018 individuals were displaced.

In response to the devastating flood disaster, NEMA had flagged off the distribution of relief items in the affected area.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has assured all those impacted of government’s support.

He said the Federal Government would continue to coordinate with the Niger State Government to ensure a swift, coordinated, and compassionate response, one that prioritises lives, restores dignity and accelerates recovery.

The President has also directed the security agencies to assist in the emergency efforts while NEMA and the National Emergency Response Centre has been tasked with coordination and providing updates as necessary.
