The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured travellers and stakeholders that enhanced preventive measures have been activated at the nation’s international airports following the recent Ebola Virus Disease outbreak reported in parts of Central Africa.
This was contained in a statement issued by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire on Tuesday.
FAAN said the measures were introduced in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services and other relevant agencies to prevent any possible importation of the disease into the country.
The authority disclosed that surveillance and monitoring of passengers, particularly travellers arriving from high-risk regions, had been intensified across airports nationwide.
According to the statement, passengers are currently being screened for symptoms associated with Ebola, while any suspected case would be immediately isolated and subjected to secondary health examinations in line with established national and international health protocols.
The authority added that emergency response procedures had also been strengthened, alongside increased staff sensitisation and closer coordination with critical stakeholders in the aviation and public health sectors.
FAAN stressed that there is presently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria, but noted that the agency remains vigilant in its commitment to protecting public health and ensuring safe airport operations.
It advised passengers to remain calm, cooperate with health screening processes at airports and promptly report any symptoms to health officials.
