Election: NPC Calls For Sustained Peace In Anambra State

The National Peace Committee (NPC) has called for sustained peace in Anambra State, despite the conclusion of the off-cycle election in the state.

The National Peace Committee is Chaired by the former Head of State and elder statesman, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd) and Most Rev. Matthew Hassan Kukah, as Convener.

The National Peace Committee envisages a Nigeria that is built on Peace, Justice and Equity, where every citizen has the right to democratic participation and can live freely in any part of the country, contributing to its growth, development and stability.

The Core values of the National Peace Committee include neutrality, integrity, transparency, efficiency and effectiveness through: fairness; confidentiality; meritocracy; justice and patriotism.

The Committee, in a post on X handle on Monday by the Kukah Centre, applauded all the stakeholders, political actors, security agencies, the media, civil society, and citizens for their commitment to a peaceful process in Anambra State.

NPC noted that “Peace does not end with the polls; it must be sustained through acceptance, dialogue, and collective responsibility.”

It therefore urged everyone to continue to demonstrate maturity, respect the will of the people, and work together for the progress and stability of democracy in the country.

The Committee said it remains committed to promoting unity, justice, and nonviolence across Nigeria.

This paper reported yesterday that Governor Charles Soludo was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election.

Prof. Soludo, was announced by the Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, at the INEC headquarters in Awka on Sunday, November 9.

According to him, Governor Soludo, who ran on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), secured 422,664 votes, while his closest rival, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), polled a total of 99,445 votes.

The electoral umpire also announced that the candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Paul Chukwuma came third with 37,753 votes, while George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) got 10,576 votes.

This is even as it was announced that the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), John Nwosu, garnered 8,208 votes.

The paper also reported that President Bola Tinubu congratulated the people of Anambra State, the security agencies and the INEC on the peaceful and successful conduct of the governorship election.

The President described Soludo’s re-election as a testament to his visionary leadership and the significant progress the state has made under his guidance.

He commended Governor Soludo for bringing discipline, grace, brilliance, and a fresh perspective to governance in Anambra, noting that under him, Anambra is living up to its motto as the Light of the Nation.
