Kambiri Reaffirms Support For Aviation Correspondents, Promises Inclusive Engagement

The Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has reaffirmed commitment to maintaining a strong working relationship with members of the Abuja Transportation and Aviation Correspondents Association (ATACA), pledging continued cooperation and support for the media.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mahmud Kambari, gave the assurance on Monday when members of ATACA paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abuja.

He said his assumption into would not affect the longstanding partnership between the ministry and the association, adding that efforts would be made to further strengthen the relationship.

According to him, the media remains a critical stakeholder in promoting the activities and achievements of the aviation sector.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that whenever opportunities arise for participation in official local and international engagements of the ministry, consideration would be given to including at least one representative of ATACA.

He, however, urged the association to adopt a transparent and equitable process for nominating beneficiaries of such opportunities.

Kambari also called on members to sustain the spirit of unity, cooperation and professionalism that has distinguished the association over the years.

He commended ATACA for what he described as its extensive media support for the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the ministry’s programmes.

According to him, “The Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo, SAN, remains committed to transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector through strategic reforms and innovative policies.”

The Permanent Secretary further revealed that plans were underway for a ministerial press briefing aimed at communicating the ministry’s key programmes, policies and achievements to the public.

On ATACA’s request for support towards its Annual Conference scheduled for September 2026, Kambari assured the association that the ministry would give due consideration to the proposal.

Kambiri in a statement by the Director, Press and Public Affairs,Chindaya Adamu pledged “maximum support and cooperation” in advancing the association’s objectives and reiterated that his office remained open to constructive engagement and collaboration.

Earlier, ATACA Chairman, Ejike Omeje, thanked the Permanent Secretary for receiving members of the association and granting them the opportunity for a familiarisation visit.

Omeje said the association comprises more than 40 correspondents covering the transportation and aviation sectors, noting that it plays a vital role in promoting informed reportage of developments in the industries.

He appealed for the ministry’s support for ATACA’s annual seminar and requested the inclusion of members in both local and foreign official trips to enhance media coverage of the aviation sector.

In a vote of thanks, Oru Leonard expressed appreciation to Kambari for his warm reception and media-friendly disposition, assuring him of the association’s continued cooperation.
