Vice President Kashim Shettima has asked Nigerians to skip the usual round of newspaper adverts and broadcast tributes as he turns 60 on September 2, 2026, requesting that any goodwill be directed toward prayer rather than public fanfare.
In a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President explained that keeping the milestone understated reflects his belief that national attention should stay fixed on the work of development rather than on personal occasions.
“To ensure absolute propriety, I respectfully appeal that there should be no public birthday celebrations, congratulatory gatherings or goodwill advertorials across print, broadcast and digital media platforms,” he said.
In place of elaborate events or paid tributes, Shettima asked well-wishers to pray for Nigeria and for the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He pointed to specific areas needing prayer: the administration’s economic reforms, a lasting end to insecurity, stronger national unity, and peace and prosperity for all Nigerians.
For the Vice President, the day is meant less as a personal celebration and more as a moment for reflection, gratitude and renewed dedication to public service.
