Former Kano State Governor and the newly emerged Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2027 general elections, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has denied reports that he is planning a protest over rising insecurity in Nigeria, dismissing the claim as disinformation.
In a statement issued and posted on his X handle on Monday, Kwankwaso said: “Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country.”
“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property.”
Kwankwaso, who described himself and his party as committed democrats, said he believes the ballot box remains the most legitimate means of expressing political grievances and driving change.
He reaffirmed the NDC’s confidence in winning the upcoming elections through peaceful and democratic means.
It should be noted that the current administration has been working round the clock to address the rising menace of insecurity in the country.
Just yesterday, President Bola Tinubu approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and ordered the deployment of a specialised rescue team as part of emergency security measures following the abduction of pupils and teachers from three schools in Ogbomoso nearly three weeks ago.
The emergency measures were announced in a statement on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
This also follows the earlier visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, the communities most affected by the May 15 kidnapping at Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
The delegation, led by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police; Tunji Disu; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare.
