LG Electronics Deepens Community Impact With New Solar Borehole In Kaduna’s Nariya Rigasa

By Sunday Etuka

Residents of Nariya Rigasa community in Kaduna State now have more reliable access to clean water following the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole by LG Electronics, the latest step in the company’s expanding water intervention programme across Nigeria.

LG, disclosed in a statement that the project marks its 19th solar-powered borehole donated across different states in the country, and brings the initiative to Kaduna after earlier interventions in other geopolitical zones, including Uyo.

Speaking at the commissioning, Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, said the initiative reflects the company’s belief that innovation should be felt directly in people’s lives.

He explained that LG’s responsibility extends beyond delivering technology to consumers, and includes identifying where the brand’s capabilities can meaningfully support the communities around it.

He noted that pairing clean water access with a sustainable energy solution shows how technology and social responsibility can work hand in hand.

Community leaders welcomed the gesture. The Head of Nariya Rigasa Village, Alhaji Zakariyya Ya’u, called water central to community life and thanked LG for engaging directly with a real local need.

Alhaji Jamiu Yakubu, Sarki of Yakin Nariya, said the project demonstrates the value of collaboration between responsible businesses and the communities they serve, describing it as an investment residents would benefit from daily rather than a one-off gesture.

The intervention carries particular significance for women, who often bear the greatest burden of water-related household duties.

Hajia Fatimat Sanni, Women Leader of Nariya Rigasa, said easier access to water would ease the daily demands of cooking, washing and childcare, freeing up time for other responsibilities.

For Mr. Moses Osime, Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at LG Electronics Nigeria, the project reflects a broader shift in corporate social responsibility, from one-off philanthropic gestures toward interventions built for lasting relevance and impact.

He said the company aims for its projects to remain useful long after the commissioning ceremony ends.

The borehole’s solar-powered design, an idea championed by Mr. Hyoungsub Sub Ji, Managing Director of LG Electronics Nigeria, reduces reliance on grid electricity and reinforces the environmental sustainability of the project, echoing the approach used in the company’s earlier Uyo initiative.

Beyond the infrastructure itself, the Kaduna project adds to a growing pattern in LG’s approach to corporate citizenship in Nigeria — one where reputation is built not just on products, but on a consistent, visible commitment to the communities the brand operates in.

For the people of Nariya Rigasa, that commitment now translates into something tangible: clean water, closer to home.
