Marwa Visits Injured NDLEA Officers Attacked During Abuja Drug Raid

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

  • The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has visited two officers injured during a violent mob attack while carrying out an anti-drug operation in Abuja.

NDLEA’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, stated this on Tuesday.

The officers, Ayegh Dooyun Zachariah and Shehu Jamil Ibrahim, are currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja, following the attack which occurred during a raid on a notorious drug joint in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory on May 15, 2026.

The operation reportedly turned violent after suspected drug dealers and hoodlums mobilised against the NDLEA team in an attempt to resist arrest and frustrate the raid. The mob allegedly attacked the operatives with dangerous objects, leaving the two officers severely injured before reinforcements restored order at the scene.

During a visit to the officers on Monday, Marwa sympathised with them and assured them of the full support of the Agency.

“The Agency will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for this cowardly attack are arrested and brought to justice. An attack on our officers is an attack on the state, and it will not go unpunished,” he stated.

Marwa commended the officers for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication during the high-risk operation, describing their sacrifices in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking as invaluable to national security.

As part of efforts to boost their morale and support their recovery, the NDLEA boss presented the injured officers with official Letters of Commendation personally signed by him, alongside other welfare packages.

He also praised the NDLEA medical team and personnel at the National Hospital for their prompt intervention and quality care which, according to him, helped stabilise the officers.

Marwa further assured Nigerians that the Agency remains committed to dismantling drug networks and sanitising communities across the country despite violent resistance from criminal elements.
