The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has convened an inter-agency meeting to strengthen preparations for the official launch of the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative in Nigeria.
The meeting, held on Friday in Abuja, was chaired by the Director-General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, and attended by the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, participated virtually.
Also represented at the meeting were the Director-General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA), Umar Mohammed; the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr.
Matthew Adepoju; and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
The meeting reviewed progress towards the national launch, with the Local Organising Committee presenting updates on inter-agency engagements, milestones achieved and priority actions required ahead of the event.
The Inter-Agency Technical Committee also presented the Nigeria EW4All Implementation Roadmap 2026–2029, outlining the framework and key actions for coordinated implementation of the initiative.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening people-centred, multi-hazard early warning systems to improve disaster preparedness, climate resilience and the protection of lives and livelihoods across the country.
Speaking on the significance of the meeting, Anosike said the collaboration among relevant agencies was critical to ensuring that early warning information reaches vulnerable communities in a timely and accessible manner.
He stressed the need for sustained institutional coordination to translate early warning information into effective early action and disaster risk reduction.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of NiMet and its partner institutions to strengthening Nigeria’s early warning architecture through improved coordination, communication and preparedness ahead of the national launch of EW4All.
