Troops of the Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralised two terrorists and recovered arms during an operation in Edo State.
The NA in a statement on Wednesday said the operation followed a reported kidnap incident at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, troops, alongside police personnel and vigilantes, pursued the fleeing suspects to their hideout in Esan Local Government Area.
The joint security team engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle, killing two terrorists. The remaining members of the gang fled under sustained pressure, abandoning their captives, who were rescued unharmed.
Security operatives recovered three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, three mobile phones and two power banks. The recovered items are in custody, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies to rid the country of criminal elements and urged members of the public to support ongoing operations with credible intelligence on criminal hideouts and collaborators.
