The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has received the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service from the Women of Glory Foundation, in recognition of her contributions to society.
Ike, described by the prestigious Foundation as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer,” received the award at a ceremony held at the weekend in Abuja, as part of the activities marking the Foundation’s 10th Anniversary.
She was represented at the event by Sharon Emephia, Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, who received the award on her behalf.
Speaking at the ceremony, Emephia commended the Foundation’s Founder, Dr. Nneka Evelyn Nzewi and her team for sustaining their humanitarian work over a decade, describing the milestone as a “reflection of resilience, vision, and a deep commitment to service.”
Conveying the Chairman’s appreciation, Emephiaa said IKe received the honour “with gratitude and humility,” adding that she viewed it not merely as a personal recognition but as a testament to the collective efforts of the NUJ FCT Council in prompting truth, development, and society progress.
The Women of Glory Foundation is a humanitarian organization that supports vulnerable women, including widows, elderly women, single mothers, through empowerment programs, mentorship, skills training, healthcare support, and faith-based guidance, it has a precedence across all 36 states of Nigeria.
In her address, the Founder, Dr. Nzewi traced the origins of the Foundation to her own childhood hardship, recalling how her mother was left to raise five children alone after the early death of her father, enduring the additional loss of two of those children.
“What she needed was not charity alone, but support, dignity, opportunity, and someone who believed in her potential,” she said, noting that the experience moved her to dedicate her success to supporting women in similar circumstances.
The Anniversary event drew women from various strata of society, many of them recognised for their impact across different fields.
