The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its anti-crime operations, recovering four stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations conducted across Kano, Yobe and Kaduna states within the past week.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Sunday, the recoveries were made by operatives of the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Badawa Division.
Among the recovered vehicles was a red Kia Forte valued at N9.5 million, allegedly obtained through a fake bank alert scam by a 37-year-old suspect, Suleiman Umar, in Damaturu, Yobe State. Following investigations, SIS operatives arrested the suspect on June 17, 2026. He reportedly confessed to the crime, and the vehicle was subsequently recovered and returned to its owner.
In another operation, police recovered a red Daihatsu Sirion valued at N4 million that was reported stolen from outside a residence in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. The vehicle was found abandoned two days later, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
Similarly, an ash-coloured 2015 Hyundai Elantra valued at N12 million, stolen from an event centre in Kano, was recovered in Zaria, Kaduna State, after suspects abandoned it and fled during a coordinated tactical operation. The vehicle has since been handed back to its owner.
The Command also recovered a Toyota ambulance belonging to EHA Special Hospital, Kano, which was stolen after armed assailants attacked security guards at the facility and carted away the vehicle, solar batteries and other valuables. The ambulance was later found abandoned along Zaria Road and returned to the hospital management.

Beneficiaries of the recoveries, including EHA Special Hospital, commended the police for their swift response, professionalism and diligence in tracking down and recovering the vehicles.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning criminals that Kano State would remain hostile territory for car thieves, fraudsters and other criminal elements. He also urged residents to continue providing timely information to support ongoing investigations and crime-fighting efforts.
The Command said investigations are continuing, with efforts intensified to arrest suspects who remain at large.
