Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during a series of operations across Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Dividion Nigerian Army/ Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, who disclosed this on Saturday, said the successes were recorded on June 12, 2026, as troops intensified ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating in the state and wider North-West region adding that arms, ammunition and other items were recovered.
During a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa in Zurmi Local Government Area, troops engaged a group of terrorists in Yanbuki District. Following a fierce exchange of fire, one terrorist was neutralised, while troops recovered rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.
As the patrol advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing troops. The soldiers subsequently cleared and destroyed the enclave, denying the criminals a key operational base.
In a separate operation along the Shinkafi-Moriki axis, troops successfully ambushed another group of terrorists. One terrorist was killed during the encounter, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, a Baofeng communication radio, two motorcycles and assorted charms.
Osoba further disclosed that troops also rescued three kidnapped victims during the operations. The victims are currently receiving necessary care, while efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region, even as the military also urged members of the pblic to continue supporting security operations through the provision of timely and credible intelligence.
