Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded fresh operational gains with the arrest of suspected criminals and recovery of arms and other incriminating items in Kaduna and Abia states.
Military authorities disclosed this on Sunday, stating that the gains were achieved by troops under Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA.
In the North West theatre, troops of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa intercepted a suspected bandit, Ibrahim Adamu, 32, during a snap roadblock operation at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on 8 May 2026.
Recovered from the suspect were one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other items. Preliminary exploitation of his mobile phone reportedly revealed photographs showing the suspect dressed in military camouflage and posing with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits. He remains in military custody for further investigation.
Similarly, troops of 14 Brigade under JTF South East Operation UDO KA responded to a distress call on 9 May 2026 over alleged illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe village in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops arrested one Ifeanyi Ezebuiro, 22, and recovered a foreign-made Ruger pistol. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed the weapon belonged to his late father. He and the recovered firearm are currently in custody pending further investigation.
The Nigerian Army said the operations reflect its sustained commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and enhancing security across the country.
It added that troops remain resolute in sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of insecurity in line with their constitutional mandate of safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national peace.
