Troops Uncover Fresh IPOB/ESN Arms Cache In Enugu Safe House

By Anne Osemekeh, Abuja

Troops of the 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), have uncovered another arms cache linked to the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the discovery was made during a raid on a suspected IPOB/ESN safe house in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state, as part of the ongoing Operation EASTERN SANITY II aimed at dismantling criminal and separatist networks across the South-East.

TheFact Daily had reported on Wednesday that security forces uncovered a cache of weapons concealed inside a piggery at Gariki in Enugu South Local Government Area. During that operation on June 9, troops recovered arms and ammunition hidden within the facility, a development that further heightened concerns over the group’s use of unconventional locations to store weapons and support violent activities in the region.

A thorough search of the Agbani apartment led to the recovery of AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 323 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 10 pairs of IPOB uniforms.

The Army said all recovered items, alongside arrested suspects, had been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

It noted that the operation underscores the determination of Operation UDO KA to sustain offensive actions against criminal and terrorist elements seeking to undermine ongoing peace-building efforts in the South-East.

The military also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty, while urging members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support efforts at achieving lasting peace and security across the region.
