Ministry Trains 110 Youth In Agro Business, Entrepreneurship

The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs (MNDA) said it has concluded the last batch of training in various areas of Agriculture and Agro Business Entrepreneurship for 110 non-militant youth from Niger Delta region.

The Minister Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Umana Umana who made this known in a statement made available on Friday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Deworitshe Patricia said, the youth received training in Horticultural, Poultry, fish farming and Agro- Business Entrepreneurship.

He reiterated that ,”6,293 non- Militant youths trained and Empowered with cash and equipment worth 5.5 billion.

“It is pertinent however to note that each of the participants received cash support ranging from N300,000 and N500,000 and a starter pack of items were delivered to the trainees at the end of their training.

“The 110 non-militant trainees were trained in different areas of life to better the lives of the Niger Delta people. 76 youths were trained in Agro Business Entrepreneurship while 54 youths were equally trained in Agriculture.

This is to enable the Ministry to meet its target under the present administration of President Mohammed Buhari,”.

At the graduation ceremony in Asaba Delta North Senatorial District Delta State, the minister who was represented by Eng. Donatus Oru from the department of Economic Empowerment, maintained that government would continue to provide the necessary assistance and direction needed by the youths in the Niger Delta Region.

The Minister further noted that the program which was hosted by the Economic Empowerment Department of the Ministry has trained thousands of people from the Niger Delta Region and helped them to start their small-scale businesses since 2013.

The Director Economic Empowerment department, Mr Philip Ndiomu, who was represented by Stella Umelo from the Ministry, emphasised the importance of human capacity development in nation building and expressed profound appreciation of the Ministry for government’s commitment to continuous training and support to the people of the region’s.

Representatives of the trainee Eta Okon and Clement Chukwudi appreciated the Ministry and the Federal Government for counting them worthy of the kind gesture extended to them and pleaded with the Minister that the training should continue so that other youth who have not been captured in the program be given the same opportunity.
